Definition

absorbance divided by the product of the concentration of the substance and the sample path length

Notes

  • NOTE 1 Absorptivity = A/(l C), where A is the absorbance, C is the concentration of the substance and l is the sample path length. The unit normally used are cm for l, and kg m-3 for C.
  • NOTE 2 The equivalent IUPAC term is 'specific absorption coefficient'. [adapted from ASTM-E-131]
